  • Sophiology and the Children of Wisdom

Triple Goddess – Sophia. Joseph Campbell tells us in Goddesses: “The Goddess is the axis mundi, the world axis, the pillar of the universe. She represents the energy that supports the whole cycle of the universe. People often think of the Goddess as a fertility deity only. Not at all – she’s the muse. She’s the inspirer of poetry. She’s the inspirer of the spirit. So, she has three functions: one, to give life; two, to be the one who receives death; and three, to inspire our spiritual poetic realization.” This change of heart from “the hero” to the “heroine” is beautifully pictured in what Rumi has to say about the divine feminine nature: “Woman is a beam of the divine Light. She is not the being whom sensual desire takes as its object. She is Creator, it should be said, She is not a Creature.” Rumi and Campbell found the path of Wisdom that informed them Sophia is not a creature but a creator who is the axis of the world and works through a Trinity – the ancient Triple Goddess.

  • Lifting the Veil of Isis/Sophia

One of the most complex and misunderstood aspects of Rudolf Steiner’s teachings is the mystery of the being of Sophia, the being Steiner calls AnthropoSophia. What is most confusing is that Steiner seems to be describing three separate beings under the name of Sophia. These three beings comprise what could be thought of as the Mother (the Creatrix), the Daughter (the Kyriotetes, the beings of Wisdom), and the being of AnthropoSophia (unique to Steiner’s teachings). Anyone who attempts to do what Steiner gives as an important injunction for the spiritual seeker - discover the Sophia of Christ – may find themselves in a quandary attempting to unravel this mystery.

The biographies of the Heavenly and Earthly Sophias are well mapped out by Steiner as if they were detailed biographies.
