Alchemists also have their version of the Holy Grail as a stone they call the “prime material” or the original substance of creation. Another name they give it is the Philosopher’s Stone which is purported to exist everywhere and nowhere, a substance that is transcendent. Once this stone is attained, the alchemist can then turn base metals into gold. It can also become the elixir of life, the heavenly dew, and the fountain of youth.
